Go up, young man

Years ago, tenements and housing projects for the poor were razed because the experts claimed that folks were harmed by living atop each other. I guess that theory doesn't apply on the West Coast. Out here, we live in condos and apartment buildings that scrape the sky. I live in a multi-story homeless shelter. Bunkbeds, another vertical innovation, are very popular among the poor in money. In downtown San Diego and surrounding areas, older single family homes have been hijacked by the professionals. In a twist of fate, families are living in high-rise office buildings and offices have moved into homes. Is it just the California mentality, or what? If so, let's capitalize on it. We can apply the vertical principle to proposed new construction projects in downtown. Let's build a soccer field above a football stadium above Petco Park. Then we will have three stories and three acres of family-friendly violence without taking up much more space. We could also build onto the Convention Center. In my humble opinion, I believe that up to five more levels could be plopped right on top of the old, like layers on a cake. Add stairs rather than elevators and help the fat cats get some exercise. If they climb high enough, maybe they can again see the water of the Big Bay behind all of the parked yachts.
