Forensic expert interviewed 9-yr-old girl

Child: “I saw that he closed the door and locked it.”

Catherine McLennan interviews children who might be the victims of abuse. She said all her interviews are recorded, on audio and video, from behind a two-way mirror.

In March and September of 2012, the forensic expert interviewed a 9-year-old girl who was pictured in disgusting videos found on the cell phone of her mom’s boyfriend. Catherine McLennan introduced the videos, which were presented as evidence to a jury yesterday, May 30, 2013.

In the first video, the girl said she was 4 years old when her parents divorced, and that her mom is “a party person.” When asked about her mom’s boyfriend, the child said: “He likes to drink” and “He’s like a party person, like my mom.”

The child said she knew she was there to talk about Daniel, her mom’s ex-boyfriend, “cause he did bad stuff.”

The child said she woke up one night in her mom’s bed, with Daniel: “It was kind of shocking, cause I didn’t know how I got there.” The child spoke in a small voice. “He was just half naked.” The girl described what the man did, and said she tried to “hang on to my pajamas.” And, “I would sometimes slap him.” The adult interviewer, Catherine McLennan, mostly listened. “He was just trying to make me be quiet,” the girl said. “Then I went back to my sister’s room.”

Did the man ever say anything? “He said don’t tell your mom or I’m going to go to jail.”

Daniel Roger Hood, 43, pleads not guilty to felony child abuse. The prosecutor has presented incriminating video clips found on the defendant’s cell phone, of a man abusing the 9-year-old girl.

Jury trial will resume Monday June 3, 2013, before the Honorable Blaine Bowman in San Diego’s North County Courthouse.
