Too much syrup--never: San Diego Symphony

A couple romantic hits and Ives this weekend at SDSO.

The concert I’ve been waiting for all season is finally here this weekend at the San Diego Symphony.

Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky are both on the ticket--and Ives.

The Rachmaninoff is the Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Tchaikovsky is the Symphony No. 4--Ives is The Unanswered Question.

I’m particularly interested in hearing the strings play the third movement of the Tchaikovsky. I also want to see if the brass can carry their stellar playing from Aida into the brass heavy Tchaikovsky.

Here’s an unanswered question for us: Is Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky on the same concert like having a pancake breakfast but instead of orange juice to drink you get a glass of syrup to go with your syrup?

When it comes to this type of concert, San Diego has a sweet tooth and so do I.

Point of fact, I say this as I sit at the table eating “Mega-Stuff Oreos”.

The concert is Friday, May 3rd at 8:00 p.m. with additional concerts on Saturday the 4th at 8 p.m. and Sunday the 5th at 2:00 p.m.
