ListenSD brings Miami Horror to Comic-Con

San Diego's own Total Request Live teams up with Static for a Comic-Con party.

A pair of local music lovers recently kicked off ListenSD, a multimedia outlet highlighting San Diego music with videos, interviews, reviews, and special events.

Host Rachel Frank likens the project (for better or worse) to MTV’s Total Request Live, “where we play music videos of local San Diego bands.”

Rachel fell in love with radio after her parents grounded her at the age of 15, taking away everything but her AM/FM receiver.

“Music ended up becoming my best friend and I gained a much deeper appreciation for it,” Frank writes. “Since then, I’ve interned at several radio stations and just fell in love with the music scene.”

Following a stint at 91X, Frank went on to intern at 102.1 KPRi, where she met soon-to-be ListenSD producer Christian Rodas.

“Although music has been a number one love in my life, I was never particularly great at creating music, so I figure I might as well help promote those who are,” writes Rodas, whose resume includes time in a youth group band, audio engineering beginning at 16-years-old, and, later, a budding career in news and entertainment television with the Union Tribune.

On Friday, July 19, ListenSD presents Australian act Miami Horror in a Comic-Con event (1401 E Street - Downtown) with local music forum Static.

Says Frank, “I hope that ListenSD will help give bands and music lovers an outlet to find each other while bringing back good ole’ music videos!”
