Week 7 High Five

Game of the Week

St. Augustine (4-1) at No. 9 Scripps Ranch (4-1) Friday 6:30 p.m.

With Eastern League play beginning this Friday, the top four teams are a combined 15-3-1. Two of these top four are the Saints and the Falcons. Scripps Ranch has not lost to a section opponent this season, winning those four games by an average of 25 points. Meanwhile St. Augustine has had a week to think about their only loss of the season, a 37-14 loss to Serra on Oct. 2. Division I talent will be on both offenses, with Saints junior quarterback Evan Crower (verbal to Stanford) and Falcons senior running back Brennan Clay (verbal to Oklahoma) leading their respective attacks. A combined 10 points have decided the last two games in this series, with Scripps Ranch winning both. Both of these teams will want to win to keep up with Cathedral Catholic, who hasn’t dropped a game this season.

Best of the Rest

No. 8 Mission Bay (5-0) at Point Loma (3-2) Friday 6:30 p.m.

For the second straight week, Mission Bay has the chance to ruin a homecoming when they play Point Loma under the portable lights. The Pointers defense will need to contain quarterback Dillon Baxter to knock off the unbeaten Bucs. Last year these two played to a 38-38 tie at Mission Bay.

No. 3 Cathedral Catholic (5-0) at Lincoln (3-1-1) Friday 6:30 p.m.

A brutal four-game stretch for Lincoln continues when they open Eastern League play by hosting Cathedral Catholic. The Dons have won their first five by a combined 27 points to extend their winning streak to 26 games. But Cathedral Catholic's defense could be tested this week by receiver Victor Dean and the Hornets' offense. Last year, these two combined for 90 points.

Mount Miguel (4-1) at Valhalla (3-2) Friday 7 p.m.

Helix has not lost a Grossmont South League game since 2006, but if they drop one this year, the Matadors and Norsemen are next in line. Since losing their season opener, quarterback Pete Thomas and the Valhalla offense have averaged 35 points per game. Valhalla won last year's game 21-14 and the road teams have won the last two in this series.

Mission Hills (4-1) at No. 2 La Costa Canyon (5-0) Friday 7 p.m.

La Costa Canyon has been dominant in defense of their section title, winning their first five games by an average of three touchdowns. Between their defense, ground game and passing attack, the Mavericks have one of the most balanced teams in the section. Mission Hills is quietly putting together a good season and have done it with defense the last two weeks, holding opponents to an average of 13 points. These teams' first meeting was last year, with the Mavs winning 21-14.

In the Red Zone

Madison (4-1, 1-0 Central) at Morse (4-2, 2-0) Friday 3 p.m.
