Bracket Breakdown: Division IV

Division IV

(8) Del Norte (5-5) vs. (9) Mission Bay (6-4)

(5) Mar Vista (7-3) vs. (12) Clairemont (5-5)

(4) Valley Center (6-4)

(3) Brawley (9-1)

(6) Imperial (8-2) vs. (11) La Jolla (3-7)

(7) Mount Miguel (6-4) vs. (10) Mater Dei (8-2)

(2) Madison (9-1)

First Round Friday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. (home team listed first)

Quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. at home site of higher seed

Semifinals Friday, Nov. 23, 7 p.m. at home site of higher seed

Finals Saturday, Dec. 1, 11:35 a.m. at Escondido High

Favorite (2) Madison

The Warhawks are the most talented team in Division IV, and the Western League champions enter the playoffs riding an eight-game winning streak. Buoyed by an explosive offense and speedy defense, Madison has the experience and skill to make a run to the championship.

Sleeper (6) Imperial

Two of the top six seeds in Division IV hail from the Imperial Valley, and the lower-seeded Tigers are one of the most dangerous teams in the bracket because of an offensive playmaker. Junior running back Royce Freeman runs with a blend of speed and power, and rushed for 1,900 yards and 26 touchdowns in the regular season.

Best of the First Round (7) Mount Miguel vs. (10) Mater Dei

The section’s only first round matchup between league champions is an East County-South Bay clash between two hot teams – Mount Miguel has won five straight while Mater Dei has won its last six. No other Division IV opening round contest pairs two teams with winning records, making this game the best of the group.

Star Watch Pierre Cormier, Madison, Sr. / Lee Walker, Madison, Sr.

Madison’s dynamic duo propels its high-flying offense, and the Arizona-bound tandem gives the Warhawks a threat no other team in Division IV has. Cormier leads the way on the ground with speed and shiftiness while Walker has the playmaking ability to turn any catch into a score.

Looking Ahead Finals – (1) St. Augustine vs. (2) Madison

If the seeds hold true in Division IV, the most talented teams in the brackets will square off at Escondido High. Both the Saints and Warhawks have the speed and talent to make this an entertaining contest, one that could see the winner into the Division III SoCal championship.
