Dog With a View

This being officially summer and all, I can’t stop hanging around the waterfront. Specially love it in the freshness of the mornings.

Came on this clump of Segue tourists being told about the old San Francisco ferry Berkeley (and hey! Exhibition of my favorite reb, Gauguin on board - but $14 to get in).

But I notice there’s something else aboard ye ancient Frisco ferryboat: a coffee cart!

Clang down the gangway, and here’s Eliane with cawfee, very moment a beach admiral needs it most. And only $1.35. Incredible. You’d think they’d inflate it a bit for us turistas.

And wait: there’s more. Breakfast, of sorts. They’ve just started selling hot dogs ($3.50). Nice big fat ones, too.

Eliane

I get one. Squirt little packets of relish, ketchup, mustard along the dog. Mmm. Delish. Specially in this salt air.

Eliane says she has lots of New Yorkers come. “They like them,” she says. “Only thing is they say their mustard’s different back there.”

But talk about a dog with a view. And what a view! In fact what a joke. Cos here I am eating a kinda sub right next to a real sub, the USS Dolphin.

But you do feel a bit of motion. Guess we really are afloat.

“Ever feel seasick?” I ask Eliane.

“Only when a big ship goes past,” she says. “Then you’ve got to hold on to everything.”

One thing you've got to watch: competition for your dog.
