Baja & Border News Translations: Potable Water Service Resumes; Mechanic is Killed

Potable Water Service Resumes (El Mexicano, 11/29/12 by Lorena Garcia Ramirez)

TIJUANA, BC - Potable water service resumed yesterday at 5 p.m. when the supply valves were reopened once repair work on one of the gates of the El Carrizo Dam was completed. The State Commission of Public Services of Tijuana (CESPT) immediately started the liquid tank pressurization and calculated that by Thursday morning service would be fully restored.

On Wednesday at 6 a.m., the CESPT closed key valves of the water supply from the El Carrizo Dam, which provides 95% of water for users in Playas de Rosarito and Tijuana. The National Water Commission (Conagua) started the replacement work on the gates that were removed a few weeks ago for servicing.

While it was announced that the water throughout the city and Playas de Rosarito in several areas such as the eastern zone of the municipality would be off, there was service with pressure all day.

During the suspension, CESPT asked the population to refrain from using tap water so as not to empty the storage tanks and that recovery of drinking water service could be expedient once the valves were reopened.

With anticipation, PEMEX stored enough water for 24 hours to be used during the repairs. Conagua concluded its El Carrizo maintenance and no new cuts in service are the expected in the near future. http://www.el-mexicano.com.mx/informacion/noticias/1/3/estatal/2012/11/29/633055/inicio-recuperacion-del-servicio-de-agua.aspx
