Late November Holiday Presents from San Diego City Council

Proposed Parking Ticket Increase

Parking tickets are due to go up by twelve percent. THIS IS NOT A TAX INCREASE; it just feel like one. Beneficiaries of the increase include Courthouse Construction and the Criminal Justice Facilities Construction Funds, State Courthouse Facilities Construction Fund (sounds a lot like the previous one, doesn't it?), Immediate and Critical Needs Account, and the Trial Court Fund, but not one damn cent to street repairs. Providing new parking spots is not addressed here as part of a different scam involving a different set of local bureaucracies, all appointed, none elected. See City Council agenda item 150 for November 29.

Water Rate Increase - because they told us so

Today we give thanks for the wisdom of our City Council members to help all of us who have extra evil cash laying around that has not yet been sent to the County Water Authority for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. It is far better for water users to give than receive, or so we have been told. See City Council agenda item 151 for November 29.

Take that for voting against Proposition D.

Somebody's Celebrating!

Agenda Item 250 tells us that inauguration festivities for new council members will take place on December 6 at 10:00 AM in Golden Hall. Contact information is provided in the agenda item for folks requiring disabled access, but no rotting vegetables will be provided regardless of claimed disability. Bring Your Own...

No Change in SDG&E Electricity Franchise Rate

City Council members again refuse to to revisit that three percent franchise fee rate set way back in 1970. Since then, the power lines remain overhead, the wildfires keep threatening, and now ratepayers get charged for whatever franchise fee that SDG&E paid in the previous year. Sempra Energy just owns SDG&E and its profits; our job is just to cover Sempra's SDG&E bills and expenses, no matter what California's Public Utilities Commission says about First Priority Conditions for Sempra Energy to infuse working and other capital for making sure that SDG&E meets its public service mandate.

I may seem bitter, but at least I don't have to pay any SDG&E bill for public utility service at higher daytime rates. Have your happy holidays!
