Heath Ledger Dies

Actor Heath Ledger dies, with pills found by his side.

Sorry, but I have little sympathy for Hollywood stars that end up with drug problems.

I've heard all the talking heads on the entertainment shows, saying how we should feel bad, because he was so shy, it was hard for him to deal with the limelight, etc.

I don't buy it.

Okay, maybe he was shy, and started acting on the advice of family and friends, to overcome this. And, he started to love it. And then of course, you get that old cliche about him "wanting to act, not get rich and famous from it." Well, guess what? That's one of the nice benefits of being a well known actor. You can live in a nice mansion, buy whatever you want, and choose good scripts. Although, I still don't know why everyone thought Brokeback Mountain was one of them. That movie was awful. As was The Patriot, with Mel Gibson.

He had a baby with Michelle Williams, who grew up here in Solana Beach. My friend Jason directed her in a play at the Christian Community Theatre. He was a lot older than her, and doesn't remember much about her. I do remember that the Christian community in Solana Beach was upset when she did Brokeback Mountain (aside from the theme of the film, she had a nude scene).

The reports now, are that she left him because of his drug abuse.

And, when people give me a hard time for not being sympathetic to people with drug problems...I ask why these actors that love the craft and history of it so much, don't realize what drugs did to actors like River Phoenix, John Belushi, etc.

And I tell them I'm more sympathetic for the 2-year-old he left behind, that now grows up without a father.
