Debbie Reynolds hospitalized in L.A.

Debbie Reynolds and I go way back. Sort of...

Believe me when I tell you that I have seen Do It Debbie's Way, an exercise video she produced in the mid '80's, more times than I have Citizen Kane. Parked in a chair with a 19-inch monitor in front of me, I must have dubbed tens of thousands of copies of both tapes.

I was living in L.A. in 1984 and working as a video tape duplicator for a place called Video Associates in Hollywood. Their exclusive accounts were Debbie and the Jane Fonda Workout DVD. My job was to load VHS tapes into a bank of recorders and sit back for 90 minutes and do quality control. Even so much as a slight glitch meant that the pass had to be degaussed and restarted. It was my job to see to it that no electronic interference marred the process.

Debbie put in a personal appearance one day to thank us all for the hard work. I took am moment to thank her for The Rat Race, a personal favorite of mine and one of the actresses' finest proformances. It also co-stars Rickles as a brutal pimp who forces Deb to strip in exchange for work.

While driving to a movie in Mira Mesa last night, I spied a billboard on 163 advertising an appearance by Debbie and Don Rickles at the Pala Casino Spa Resort on February 16. I made a note to call and see if I could arrange to interview the two legends to help promote the event.

TMZ just reported that "the actress has been forced to cancel her upcoming appearances for the next three months" after she was hospitalized "due to an adverse reaction she experienced to a medication she was currently taking."

Be well, Debbie. I can't wait to see you and your Rat Race co-star in person next February!
