How often does a director of Wim Wenders' magnitude come through San Diego on a press tour let alone make himself available to the public?
The director of such masterworks as The American Friend, Paris, Texas, and Wings of Desire will be on hand for a Q&A (hosted by yours truly) following the 7 p.m. screening of Pina, his Academy Award-nominated interpretive dance documentary on the life of Pina Bausch, this Thursday evening at Horton Plaza.
Must see 3D: Wim Wenders on the set of Pina.
Pina follows hot on the heels of Cave of Forgotten Dreams and Hugo as a film that succeeds at using 3D as a narrative tool, not an excuse to throw pies or plunge swords at the audience. If you don't believe me, check out David Elliott's four-star review.
This is a rare opportunity to meet cinematic royalty. Do not make the man leave town thinking San Diego is nothing more than a quaint whistle-stop two hours down the road from Hollywood. Even if it is true, let's at least try and fill the place.
