Teachers for Sweetwater district face insurance cost hike
anniej and ensenadamaria--I understand what you are saying about teachers attending meetings. I have been one of the few in attendance (until past 2am even) and spoken my concerns (as has TeacherLauren). However, how about cutting educators some slack. You both know that agendas come out (or are supposed to) 24 hours in advance and many of the issues you mentioned were not common knowledge for teachers. So, suddenly finding a babysitter or changing an appointment or god forbid--just being exhausted from the teaching day can trump attending a board meeting. Also, it isn't teacher presence at these meetings that matter--the board just smirks and blows us off. Even when we speak out about issues such as bus cuts, boundaries, etc. Brand and Co. do what they want. Parent, community, and media voices are what moves the board. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, regardless of attendance.— October 17, 2013 7:15 p.m.
Teachers for Sweetwater district face insurance cost hike
Well said TeacherLauren. I second everything you said. A few other points to consider. --Will Ed start taking out the higher rate insurance costs in Dec.? And then when negotiated "reimburse" us? All the while earning interest on our money! (this year we had no furlough days so he has got to make money somehow--iPads are expensive) --The district sent out rates in September and then suddenly changed them by an additional $256.23 per family per month. What's to say even more breaches like this will not occur during negotiation process? Liars lie. Cheaters cheat. If it walks like an Ed, and talks like an Ed, it's a cheater and a liar.— October 17, 2013 6:12 p.m.
Sweetwater U partnership opposed by Freedom from Religion
Timtim=McCann. No doubt about it. Plenty of evidence in past irrational, illogical behavior and speech. Nut job! Regarding start time: wouldn't surprise me, in the grand scheme of things--what's another broken law for these bottom feeders?— January 20, 2013 2:41 p.m.
Sweetwater Interim Superintendent Ed Brand Resigns
Did no one catch how it was slipped in that Barry Dragon is now consulting with the district? For how much? He is financial guy who helped Brand play with district money in his first run as sup. This is NOT good, people! It speaks to Brand's intent to keep being manipulative and sneaky with funds via slimy Dragon. WATCH CAREFULLY and QUESTION EVERYTHING FINANCIAL.— September 26, 2012 8:35 p.m.
Sweetwater School Board Awards 2-Year Contract to Ed Brand
Brand wrote it himself and told the Board to approve it. There is even a note that he can hire who he wants, place them where he wants, whenever he wants (without limitation). This was a point of contention in San Marcos fiasco-- he gave a teaching position to political crony's wife. I am sure this is about hiring teachers for his charter school. Teacher's union Pres. Should be crying "foul" but said nothing. And what the heck--Barry Dragon is coming back? He helped Brand play "Move the Money" his last round and quickly exited when Brand left. Foxes watching the hen house--they need to be monitored CLOSELY!— September 26, 2012 8:29 p.m.
Sweetwater Schools Board Aborts Meeting Agenda, Not Brand
Shhhh, can you hear Pearl? "Where's Ed? Where's Ed? Does anyone know where Ed is?" It's dejavu!— September 11, 2012 10:35 p.m.
Sweetwater Schools Board Aborts Meeting Agenda, Not Brand
Here is my guess (and please remember, I am only a teacher): The Board researched Alex_Anguiano's information about the meeting being illegal and decided that they would not take action and just name Maria Castilleja (Bruja) Duty Officer, in Brand's absence. [See, we did nothing wrong people.] Interim Superintendent cannot accept a contract, therefore, Brand will resign (for like an hour, since he hasn't been working) and at the regularly scheduled meeting, it will be announced that he is now full time Sup. [No harm, no foul] Brand has the Board by the ***** because only he (and D. Russo) know the details of the "Rob Peter to Pay Paul Game" (borrowing from one fund/account with 120 day limit--moving $ from another to pay the one that is due, on and on) with regard to iPad $, mello-roos, etc. If I were a betting man, I would bet Brand is Sup. by end of next regularly scheduled meeting--otherwise name Bruja Interim Sup..— September 11, 2012 5:51 p.m.
