Small, local businesses on notice
I quit patronizing the local farmer's market in my area, after two bad experiences. The first time, I paid $6 for a brown paper bag of oranges, nice fresh ones on top, the old, dried-up ones were on the bottom. Months later, a different vendor sold me bruised, half-rotten persimmons. No thanks, I don't have money to throw away.— August 20, 2015 7:43 a.m.
El Cajon dentist's Chicago misfortune
(I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. A certain rip-off, extraordinaire female dentist in OB, charged me $8,000 for dental work a few years back. ALL of it had to be re-done by another dentist, who urged me to file a complaint with the state board. I did, but lo and behold they sided against me. The reasoning was that I had already had the work re-done, so they couldn't properly determine that it was performed incorrectly. Never mind that it took over a year for my complaint to be considered. What a racket!)— August 16, 2015 4:16 p.m.
Disabled? You’re hired. Not disabled? Pretend you are.
I agree. I also think that someone needs to investigate why so many ENORMOUS work trucks are parked in Handicapped Spaces at Home Depot. Many even have signs on the door, advertising their company. If someone is able-bodied enough, to do construction work, why are they qualified for a placard, to park in those spaces? AND it looks suspiciously to me, as though they just *might* be collecting Social Security Disability benefits, also.— August 14, 2015 12:30 p.m.
El Cajon dentist's Chicago misfortune
AMAZING,the amount of money *some* (not all) dentists make.— August 14, 2015 11:35 a.m.
Family talks about dead Coronado woman Rebecca Zahau
Never mind the ex-wife or brother being questioned. What about Ms.Zahau's "younger sister," who happened to be staying there for the summer and was witness to Max's "accident." Oh yeah, I forgot--she was whisked off and sent back home right afterward.— August 13, 2015 11:51 a.m.
AirBnB, the elephant in the room
Our elected officials need to pull their head out of their @sses. Many people want to come to San Diego for weddings, conventions, tournaments, etc, but don't want to stay in a hotel. I see nothing wrong with someone renting out their home, through a legitimate business, such as VRBO, rather than some loser jerk buying a house they can't afford and renting out rooms to random people, with questionable backgrounds, who aren't qualified to rent elsewhere. I had a dirtbag neighbor, several years ago, who did just that. One of his tenants broke into my car and stole the stereo, in the middle of the night, when he was moving out. I imagine he was probably skipping out on his rent, too.— August 13, 2015 9:42 a.m.
Notorious drug house goes up in flames
I've had first-hand experience with a F*CKING tweaker. The inside of my house was trashed, I was ripped off AND the icing on the cake, I am permanently disabled (nearly lost MY life) and live in CONSTANT pain, thanks to a lying, thieving tweaker. So yeah, my comment stands. Sorry, not sorry.— August 7, 2015 11:01 a.m.
Endangered species holds up road construction
Well, all I have to say is wtf are we paying taxes for? Idiotic downtown waterparks during a drought? Next a giant Ferris Wheel? PFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!— August 3, 2015 4:38 p.m.
Burglars rifle cars for remotes
I agree. I am SICK and TIRED of my thieving scum neighbor. And I'm not his only victim, apparently. He's stolen from 2 other houses, to my knowledge and who knows how many more. Once his old lady kicks the bucket, he'll inherit the house and then he can steal from everyone, on a full-time basis.— August 3, 2015 3:49 p.m.
How Airbnb is ruining Pacific Beach
For the past 20yrs or so, I have lived in a house that I own in OB. I have gone OUT of my way to be a kind, considerate neighbor. Even calling people and banging on doors, to warn them about moving their cars for street sweeping, so they didn't get a ticket. For 15yrs, *I paid* for a "dusk-to-dawn" light through SDG&E, which was mounted on the telephone pole, in front of my house, prior to the utilities being put underground, that benefited everyone. Thanks to ME, a street light is now there. I pick up bag loads FULL of the most disgusting trash imaginable daily, as I walk my dogs around the block. In return, I have had one of the trees in my backyard killed, another poisoned and is dying, by a neighbor who didn't want to sweep up leaves--but of course it's okay for ME to pick up leaves from the tree on his property. I now have absolutely NO privacy and my backyard is more or less useless, since I am surrounded by 2-story houses with balconies. All of my solar lights and various other lawn decorations, that I had in my front yard were stolen, over the past 2yrs, again by another trashy neighbor. Who then proceeded to steal expensive wheel hubs off of my car ($75 each), once I put up an $800 fence, to keep him out. And my car has also been vandalized numerous times, as has my retaining wall, by disrespectful drunks. So, *I* am supposed to be concerned with the "consequences," to these people, IF and WHEN I decide to turn my house into a vacay rental, make a profit from my investment and go live elsewhere? I don't *think* so.— August 1, 2015 6:50 p.m.
