Krakatoa

Ghost-ridden coffee house and neighborhood hangout offers garden seating and light eating, mainly breakfast or lunch sandwiches named after the volcanoes of the world (get it?). You may get bonked on the head by dropping figs. But the fabulous jungle deck transports you from the hardscape of the streets, and the vegan donuts will take you all the way to heaven.

Krakatoa is a hidden little jewel that is well worth seeking out. I was working in the area last week with my boss and fortunately had the opportunity to dine there for our lunch break. The casual, earthy atmosphere inside the "house" where the menu, order counter, glass food display case, and internet friendly tables as well as cushy furniture are found, exhibits a cool bohemian charm. The traitor's head sandwich was our selection for the meal which ocnsists of sliced lean beef with a mild horse radish creamy spread, cheese, tomatoes and onions sandwiched inside a torta like roll. The sandwich is complimented with a unique and delicious homemade potato salad. Many other sides are available if desired. On cool days, inside seating is preferred which also invites one of many specialty coffee/tea beverages offered. However, in nicer weather, the wooden deck nestled in lush greenery is the ticket. I knew I'd scored points with my boss when I witnessed him pocketing a sample menu before leaving this appealing local eatery.
