Farmer & the Seahorse

Located off Torrey Pines Road amongst the science firms north of UCSD, this quirky addition to the Alexandria development boasts a kitchen under the auspices of local celeb Brian Malarkey. As yet open only for breakfast, lunch, Sunday brunch, and some happy hours, Farmer & the Seahorse is a clever riff on the trendy taverns that have been so popular lately.

Unexpectedly New Age touches (bone broth by the cup and kombucha in the cocktails) don’t undermine the convivial, professional atmosphere, and the Orange Julius-themed cocktail that incorporates a yogurt liquor is satisfying. The small plates don’t offer much to fill up on during happy hour, though the individual pizzas manage to get the job done.
