The Magnificent Mile is Chicago's version of the Champs-Elysées - a grand wide boulevard with exclusive shops, museums, restaurants and ritzy hotels.
Chicago’s John Hancock Building reaching into the clouds! It is 100 stories and 1,127 ft. tall and houses offices, restaurants and about 700 condos. On "The Signature Room on the 95th Floor", patrons can look out at Chicago and Lake Michigan while they dine. An annual stair climb race up the 94 floors from the Michigan Avenue level to the observation deck, called Hustle up the Hancock, is held on the last Sunday of February. The climb benefits the Respiratory Health Association of Metro Chicago: 2008 record time clocked at 9 minutes 38 seconds.
Chicago Gentrification -- My grandson’s Flat Stanley traveled from San Diego to Chicago & met this worker on a River North section gentrification project. River North and West sprouted & then exploded in the past half-decade thanks to the conversion of storage & manufacturing facilities into hard loft residences & the construction of new single-family homes, condos & high-rises. All this was amidst very hip galleries, restaurants, shopping & easy access to highways & the lakefront. An estimated 25,000 new residents, occupying some 10,000 new condominiums, have moved into the neighborhood since 2000. Note the curtains & shade still on one window even though the room behind is totally demolished.
Children and adults alike frolicking after dark in the reflecting pool under one of the two 50-foot glass block towers at Chicago's Millenium Park Crown Fountain. Video images of a broad spectrum of Chicago citizens are projected from the towers and water flows through a water outlet in the screen to give the illusion of water
spouting from their mouths.
