Along the way, he became addicted to methamphetamines, which earned him a dishonorable discharge. When he opens the door of his California home for the first time, he’s horrified.

Open mic MC Jefferson Jay hosts the San Diego Music Hall of Fame gala. Inductees: guitarist Mark Goffeney, born without arms; and jazz pianist Sue Palmer. Also honored: booker and musician John Ciccolella, and the late Lou Curtiss, who ran Folk Arts Records. Other acts: Pizarro Brothers, Gato Papacitos, and Billy Galewood (Bushwalla).

Over 200 local and regional makers display their creations at Balboa Park – mostly inside participating museums. Exhibitors include robotics clubs, 3D printers, tiny house constructers, and paper and leather makers. Special programming at SD Art Institute will include artist lectures and interactive activities inspired by the exhibition Beyond the Age of Reason, about how faith meshes with contemporary life.

Learn about how pumpkins are grown and cared for, plus their nutritional value, uses, and their squash cousins. Visit goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, miniature donkeys, and llamas at Farm Zoo. Tractor hayrides, straw maze, and country store. Each weekend includes a special event: craft fair, scarecrow contest, costume contest, and Howl-o-ween doggie costume contest. Free admission, $5 parking.

Jigsaw puzzle competition

Jigsaw puzzle competition

Jigsaw puzzle competition

Teams will complete on 100-piece jigsaw puzzles to determine division placement before the 500-piece main round. The team with fastest completion time in each division wins. Participants without teams can register as free agents and get set up with other puzzlers to form a team. All skill levels welcome. Food and beer available for purchase.
