Sept 22

Harbor Police responded to the A-3 Anchorage and investigated a theft of some rigging from a moored vessel. The stolen rigging is used to hoist dinghies up to the stern of a vessel.

Harbor Police assisted a couple of paddle boarders that were blown by the wind across the main shipping channel near the Coronado Ferry Landing. Due to the high winds, they were unable to safely navigate back across the channel.

Harbor Police responded to the area of the Navy fuel pier and the bait barges due to several boats striking a submerged object. Harbor Police found the object was a 1000’ containment boom that broke free from the Navy fuel pier. Several boats struck the boom, causing it to break into sections. Harbor Police towed sections of the boom, reattaching it to the pier. Harbor Police then conducted an accident investigation due to damage done to a vessel.

Harbor Police impounded an abandoned vessel as it was adrift in the Sweetwater Channel near the National City launch ramp. The vessel was stripped of the registration information. Harbor Police are currently investigating and have located the owner. Charges are pending for the outcome of investigation.

Harbor Police responded to Glorietta Bay Launch ramp for a vessel fire and explosion. As Harbor Police arrived, the fire was already extinguished due to the owner using several fire extinguishers. Harbor Police conducted an investigation and found that the vessel’s fuel line was not properly attached due to recent engine work.

Sept 18

Harbor Police responded to a naked male subject swimming near the Midway Museum. The subject was assisted out of the water and due to his demeanor and comments he was transported to a hospital for treatment and then to a mental health facility.

Harbor Police investigated an intentional sinking of a vessel in Sunroad Marina. Harbor Police has suspect information.

Harbor Police were contacted by a subject who accidentally left a cell phone and other property on the dock at the Harbor Police guest slips. Upon the subject returning to the dock, he found the phone missing. Through an investigation, Harbor Police located the phone and the subject who took it. The subject was taken into custody for a warrant and other charges.

Harbor Police impounded a small inflatable dinghy as it was attached to a slip at the Harbor Police guest slips without a valid permit. The vessel registration had expired in 2013.

Harbor Police responded to the A-4 Anchorage near the Coronado Bridge to investigate a possible sexual battery. Due to the circumstances and statements of both parties, the incident was documented.

Harbor Police responded to a distress call regarding a vessel sinking near buoy #21. Harbor Police arrived and assisted with taking the passengers off the mostly submerged vessel. Tow Boat US was then dispatched to secure the vessel and tow it to a salvage yard.

Harbor Police investigated a boater who was illegally anchored in the A-9 Cruisers Anchorage and conducting some construction work on the swim step of his vessel. Harbor Police was informed the construction work was allowing sawdust and other debris to get into the water, causing an environmental issue.

Harbor Police responded to the Marriott Marina for a subject acting irrational. The subject then jumped into the bay and began swimming around boats within the marina. Harbor Police arrived as the subject was getting out of the water. Due to his comments and demeanor he was taken to a county mental health facility for an evaluation.

Sept 10

Harbor Police issued a citation to a boater who was sleeping aboard his illegally anchored vessel as it was next to the main shipping channel. The vessel was not displaying an anchor light, its navigational lights were extremely dim and due to other vessel traffic, it was an extreme hazard to navigation.

Harbor Police responded to a submerged dinghy near Buoy #18 in mid San Diego Bay. Harbor Police retrieved the dinghy and stored it at the Harbor Police dinghy impound dock.
