Summer is pickling season. Learn fermentation and benefits of making and eating fermenting foods. Demonstration of simple fermented pickle recipes with cucumbers, peppers, carrots, and other vegetables loaded with healthy “probiotic” bacteria. Taste samples of pickle styles. Make your own batch of seasonal pickles to take home and ferment.
Battle in the Box

As of June 15, the Poway Sportsplex has been hosting lacrosse pick-up games on Fridays, 6 pm to 8 pm for high school varsity players 18 and over. You can bring your own team (up to 15 players), or they will put you on a team. Helmets, elbow pads, and gloves mandatory. This Saturday, there will be a full tournament, with 18-minute halves and five-minute halftimes. Each team will play three to five games. Music, snack bar, and vendors for spectators.
US Air Guitar Championship

Part rock show. Part comedy act. Part spectacle. US Air Guitar allows ordinary people to become ridiculous rock stars. Come watch San Diegans battle it out for air guitar supremacy. Competition rules: Each performance is played to 1 minute (60 sec.) of a song. The 60 seconds can start anywhere in the song. The instrument must be invisible and must be a guitar. Air roadies are allowed, but must leave the stage before the performance. Back-up bands (air or real) are not allowed. Contests each consist of two rounds: Round 1 (freestyle): each competitor performs to a song of their choice. Round 2 (compulsory): top competitors from round 1 perform surprise song.

Go full retro patriotic by coming early to the Julian Fourth of July parade. Salute the Marine Color Guard, and carry a giant American Flag down the thoroughfare. Bands include the Emerald Society Bag Pipe Band, Euphoria Brass Band, Gold Drum and Bugle Corps. Flyover of four Stearman Biplanes used in WW2. Patriotic music will be played at three different stages along the route.
