Fletcher castigates the county board

Twice-defeated San Diego mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher has taken to the news and opinion website financed by his political godfather — La Jolla billionaire Democrat Irwin Jacobs — to castigate the county board of supervisors for voting themselves a handsome pay and benefits increase.

“Supervisors have received higher raises over the last eight years than the county employees who serve the public,” proclaimed the Republican-turned-independent-turned-Democrat who many expect to seek the supervisorial seat of termed-out Republican Ron Roberts next year.

The Voice of San Diego described Fletcher as “a Marine Corps combat veteran and former member of the California Assembly who currently serves as a professor of practice in political science at the University of California, San Diego,” leaving out the part about his controversial executive position at Jacobs-founded Qualcomm, currently described on Fletcher’s LinkedIn page as handling “global strategies initiatives.”

Suffering from amnesia Nathan? Let's not forget, Nathan Fletcher was chief of staff, for 3 years, to felon Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham. Cunningham had to resign from Congress after pleading guilty to accepting at least $2.4 million in bribes and under-reporting his taxable income for 2004. He pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud and tax evasion. Cunningham was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison and was ordered to pay $1.8 million in restitution. Just making sure we remember Nathan Fletcher, who partied with Karl Rove and President George W. Bush, was a conservative republican before he was an independent and eventually 2 years ago a democrat.

He goes where the wind blows. A chief of staff is the only one who knows as much as the chief does.

randy duke was a crook but his napalm drops saved our marine grunt lives over there! DUNCAN HUNTER JR. IS ALSO A PTSD-AFFLICTED CROOK!

Along with tweeting, Fletcher also has a habit of marrying women who are politically well-placed insiders. Back when he was a Republican, Fletcher's first wife worked in the GOP White House of President George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. After his San Diego mayoral attempt was cratering for lack of a political center, then-divorced Fletcher hooked up with divorced San Diego Labor Council leader Lorena Gonzalez. Gonzalez has become a powerhouse Democratic state assemblymember. Now Fletcher's also a Democrat. He and Gonzalez got married a month ago.

yes and lorena looked like a knockout!

we marines get all the best gals (and a few of the worst, beejeesus)!

Nathan Gonzalez and his wife hooked up before he was ever divorced.

nathan: your county supe "code red" is sanctioned from above!

Here is a recent bio of Mr. Gonzalez. No mention of his political parties over the years. Did he really train "Nobel Prize-winning human rights activists in the developing world?" Enjoy. Former Assemblyman, 75th District, State of California & Marine Veteran Nathan Fletcher is a dynamic leader whose life experiences range from leading classified human intelligence missions in combat zones and being decorated for valor under fire, to passing landmark legislation as an elected official, to training Nobel Prize-winning human rights activists in the developing world, to completing an Ironman Triathlon and climbing some of the world's highest mountains. He is currently a Professor of Practice in Political Science at UC San Diego and Founder and Chairman of the Three Wise Men Foundation, a veteran-focused nonprofit. Mr. Fletcher also serves as the Senior Director of Global Strategic Initiatives at Qualcomm Technologies, a Fortune 500 company, where he leads business and strategic initiatives globally to identify, develop, and expand opportunities where technology has the power to positively transform people’s lives. Photo below is Newt Gingrich just in case he forgot his republican roots.

Gosh, a resume of alternative facts! He could qualify to run for County Supervisor!

If the low-information voters could elect someone so utterly unqualified as Kristin Gaspar, Fletcher should be a shoe-in.

Ponzi! It's not about shoes: the expression is "shoo-in." And I agree with you that Dave Roberts would have been a better county supervisor than Ms. Gaspar.
