Conrad Prebys Music Center at UCSD

Russell Lane at Gilman Drive, La Jolla

Saxophonist Drew Ceccato and his quintet perform Roscoe Mitchell’s Nonaah at UC San Diego’s Conrad Prebys Music Center Experimental Theater with Kyle Motl, Tommy Babin, Judith Hamann, and T.J. Borden at 7 p.m. Free concert.

Panama 66

1450 Plaza de Panama, Balboa Park

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66, beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series outside on the patio. At 8:30 p.m., everyone heads inside to the Copley Auditorium where he leads the jam session until 11:30. All ages, musicians and artists are welcome. No cover, no minimum.

Saxophonist Joe Lovano comes to town with a quartet featuring Leo Genovese, Peter Slavov, and Lamy Istrefi to play the Athenaeum Jazz at TSRI at 7:30 p.m. Tickets run $35 general, $30 members, $15 student rush… The Mackenzie Leighton Trio with Jarien Jamanilla, and Matthew Smith perform at Harbor Music Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. $15 cover.

The Christopher Hollyday Bebop Quintet with Derek Cannon, Jason Shattil, Rob Thorsen and Duncan Moore play Dizzy’s from 8 p.m. Tickets run $20 cash at the door.

Saxophonist Mark Lessman and guitarist Peter Hix play in duo at Ki’s Restaurant (2591 S. Coast Highway) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free with dinner, otherwise, a $10 cover applies.
