Tuesday 27
The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen on bass and Fernando Gomez on drums play Café 21 (802 Fifth Avenue) from 7 to 10 p.m. Free… The Natural Sounds Trio with Jake Najor, Christian Schinelli, and Harold Todd play Winston’s (1921 Bacon Street) from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Tickets run $6 bucks at the door… There’s a triple-header happening at Low Gallery (1878 Main Street) with Tim Barnes/Jeph Jerman, Ted Byrnes/William Hudson, plus Adjunct with Alan Jones, Kristian Aspelin, Nick Leslie, Nathan Hubbard, and Blake Caminos at 7 p.m. $8, all-ages.

Wednesday 28
Gilbert Castellanos begins his first gig at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series on the patio and continuing inside at 8:30 p.m. when he leads the jam session until 11 p.m. All ages, no cover, no minimum.

Thursday 29
The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Fernando Gomez play a midday concert at Palomar College (1140 West Mission Road) at 12:30 p.m. Free… The Gary Rich Jazz Jam session goes down at Harbor Music Hall (1506 India Street) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Free.

Friday 30
The NYC free jazz duo of saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock and drummer Tom Rainey kick off the Fresh Sound concert series at Bread & Salt (1955 Julian Avenue) at 7:30 p.m. There is a rumor that bassist Mark Dresser will be joining them on the second set. Tickets run $15 general admission, $10 students… Gilbert Castellanos presents Jazz at the Westgate with Joshua White and Dean Hulett at 8 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum… The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Fernando Gomez play Panama 66 from 7 to 9 p.m. Free.

Saturday 1
The Reka Parker Quartet with Burnett Anderson, Jeff Blanco, and Bob Daniels play Northern Spirits (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. No cover charge… Vocalist Allison Adams Tucker leads a trio with Hugo Suarez and Rob Thorsen at the Westgate Hotel from 8 to 11 p.m. No cover but there is a $20 food/drink minimum... Gilbert Castellanos and Jamie Shadowlight present the Music of West Side Story at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) with Mikan Zlatkovich, Will Lyle, Monette Marino, and Kevin Higuchi at 8 p.m. $20 cash at the door. All ages.
