Wednesday 30
Angles 3, featuring Kjell Nordeson on drums, Ingerbrikt Haker Flaten on bass, and Martin K. on saxophone make a rare U.S. date at the Loft (9500 Gilman Drive) at 8 p.m. This concert is free… Nexus 4000 with Gabriel Sundy, Andy Geib, Nate Jarrell, Grant Fisher, Ed Kornhauser, Mack Leighton, and Charlie Weller play the Whistle Stop (2236 Fern Street) at 9 p.m. No cover… Gilbert Castellanos plays two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series and continuing at 8:30 when he leads the jam session. No cover, no minimum, all-ages welcome.

Friday 1
Mundell Lowe leads a trio with Rob Thorsen and Jim Plank for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking… Bassist Mackenzie Leighton does the trio thing with Robert Dove and Nathan Hubbard at Villa Musica (10373 Roselle Street) at 8 p.m. $10 at the door… Lower Left with Barry Farrar, Mikan Zlatkovich, and Antar Martin play Bourre Southern Bistro (6523 University Avenue) from 7 to 9 p.m. No cover… The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra plays the Champion Ballroom (4225 Ruffin Road, Suite 200) from 7 to 10 p.m. $12 per person… Charlie Chavez and his 12-piece Salsa band Afrotruko perform at Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) from 8 p.m. $20 at the door.

Saturday 2
Allison Adams Tucker presents the Saturday Spotlight Series featuring Josh Nelson on piano and Curtis Taylor on trumpet at the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue) at 8 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum… The Barry Farrar Trio featuring Peter Marin, Reclusive Rick, and Don Skelton play Andiamo’s (5950 Santo Road) from 5:30 to 8:30. No cover.
