Padres’ forlorn Fouler seeks de-tats-ment following Kemp's Instagram insult

Bottoming out?

Fouler gazes mournfully into space as he bares his arm in preparation for the removal of the tattoo he got in honor of the Padres' acquisition of Kemp in 2014. “The procedure will hurt,” he admitted prior to entering the clinic, “but the physical pain is nothing compared to the heartbreak. I thought we were going to make something beautiful together.”

I thought we were going to make something beautiful together.”

Baseball experts were not surprised when the San Diego Padres traded Matt Kemp to the Atlanta Braves: the Braves desperately needed power, and the Padres desperately needed to escape Kemp’s enormous contract and hire some young talent. But they were surprised when Padres executionary chairperson Rod Fouler lashed out following the publication of Kemp’s heartfelt letter to the Atlanta fans, a letter that promised, "The Matt Kemp of old — the kid who was the first at the park and the last to leave, the kid who would take cuts in the cage till his hands bled, the kid who would literally run through a wall for his teammates, the kid who was playing to win … not for a contract — that’s the kid who’s on his way to Atlanta.”

“He made the same type of statement to our fans when we traded for him,” snarled Fouler when he heard the news. "I called his comments B.S., because his actions are inconsistent with his words.”

But a quick check of Kemp’s Instagram may go a long way toward explaining Fouler’s intense reaction. Kemp is noted for his collection of tattoos — including a remarkably detailed portrait of his grandparents on his chest — and it seems he has added some ink in response to recent events.
