Sunday 10
Soda Bar sets up Dan Boekner’s (Wolf Parade/Divine Fits) Operators on Sunday night. Formed in 2013 with New Bomb Turks/Divine Fits drummer Sam Brown and multi-instrumentalist Devojka, the Operators last week released their debut full-length, Blue Wave. I’m listening as I type and my knee jerks to melodic synth rock à la Joy Division/New Order. Because I know you’re a Boekner fan, too, I did a little digging and, yes, Wolf Parade is writing and recording again. But while you wait for that one, Blue Wave will def do. Synth-pop two-piece Bogon Via opens the show.... Miss the door at the Soda, folk-rockers Escondido and Jake Loban will split a bill at Casbah...or if you need a little help with your taxes, Math Dad’s at the Whistle Stop.

Nashville's rock-roll throwbacks Music Band play Soda Bar on Tuesday.

Monday 11
Crayola punks Peelander-Z will be at Casbah Monday night. The “Japanese action-comic band hailing from the Z area of Planet Peelander” has a new live record, Live from Red 7, which is just the soundtrack to what actually happens at a Peelander gig — human bowling, wrestling, and all kinds of kung-fu action moves. Our own punk-rock throwbacks the Touchies open the show.... Another Japanese act and one-time Peelander tourmates, the female art-punk trio from Chiba called Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re, plays Til-Two behind their new record, Abandon Human. Skapeche Mode, Causers, and Sound Lupus will set it up.

Tuesday 12
Don’t let the obviousness of Music Band’s name, the fact that they’re from Music City, or their AC/DC-style of retro-rock fool you, this trio of best buds wrings everything out of their guitar-bass-drum format with exceptional songcraft and a kickass live show. Check out Dave Good’s Of Note on ’em, then lend an ear to this year’s Wake Up Laughing and we’ll see you at Soda Bar Tuesday night. Diarrhea Planet and the Soaks are also on the bill.... Fat Possum act Fat White Family fills the stage at Casbah. From their one sheet: “Songs for Our Mothers...is glitterball disco, smacked-out psych, glam funk, heartbreaking torch songs, and otherworldly slabs of Kraut ’n’ Western...a thrilling statement of disgust.” Yowza. Gateway Drug goes first.

Art-punk Spencer Moody (Murder City Devils) takes the stage at Casbah on Wednesday.

Wednesday 13
So, Lord Huron sold out Belly Up...and Chvrches sold out the Observatory...but, BUT, Seattle son and Murder City Devil Spencer Moody will welcome you to Casbah. I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Moody’s art-punk pen and pipes, and his most recent singles, “I Relent” and “Single Car Accident,” donut disappoint. His new band features Void guitarist Bubba Dupree, and according to Brooklyn Vegan, the show’s “a dark bluesy, folky rock thing.” Yes, I did cut-and-paste that from the last time Moody came to town. He’s not much for updates, so shaddup.... Best of the rest Wednesday night finds throwback blues-rock act Patrick Sweany Band at Soda Bar with our own old-schoolers Jimmy Ruelas and Rin Tin Tiger...while turntablist Greyboy’s breakbeats dream team of Jake Najor (drums) and Delmos Wade (keys) — “a next-gen power trio!” — Taurus Authority takes the stage at Bar Pink for your RDA of urban jazz.
