A 76-year-old Valley Center man pleaded guilty to making a false bomb report and was sentenced earlier this month, on June 2.
Frits Versteegh received probation, according to prosecutor Cal Logan, who said it was a misdemeanor plea deal.
Versteegh was accused of threatening to bomb SDG&E trucks last December after rain severely eroded the dirt road leading to his home. Versteegh apparently blamed a utility worker for ruining a dirt berm at the edge of his road when that worker was servicing a power pole.
No explosive device was every found, according to sheriff’s sergeant Alan Noble.
The gray-haired man was taken into custody after he sent an email to a local news station’s website venting his anger. He quickly posted bond and has been at liberty.
San Diego superior court judge Michael Popkins ordered 90 days in custody but stayed that jail time pending successful completion of three years’ probation and 12 hours of anger-management courses, and told Versteegh that he may not possess any firearms.

In my experience, this prosecutor does not often make misdemeanor plea deals.
