Sunday 30
From Austin, Texas, the “psychedelic party folk and disco honky-tonk” sextet Calliope Musicals head west and hit Soda Bar on Sunday. NPR’s “All Songs Considered” says of the traveling circus, “Who brings a confetti cannon to a fun fight? Calliope Musicals does.” Locals Splavender and the Sinclairs will set up the “fun fight”...while Mini-Apple synth-pop band On An On takes the stage at Casbah behind this year’s sulking but comforting And the Wave Has Two Sides. Eliot Sumner and Dosh go first.

Spokane soul-funk band Mama Doll plays Soda Bar Monday night.

Monday 31
Mama Doll is a soul-funk band from Spokane. That is all I need to know, as I love all things soul-funk and Spokanese. See you at the Soda Bar Monday night, where the Darrows and Hand Drawn Tree set the stage.... This month’s Undercover at the Office covers the Cure, which...I just don’t know if I want to hear anyone but Robert Smith sing their hits. Maybe I’ll stop by and stick my head on the door ha.

Belly Up stages dub pioneer Lee "Scratch" Perry on Tuesday.

Tuesday 1
“This is the ape-man, trodding through creation, are you ready to step with I man?” Jamaican dub pioneer and rocksteady reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry will take his “Super Ape 40th Anniversary Tour” to Belly Up on Tuesday. Super Ape (“Dread Lion”) dropped from Perry’s Black Ark studio in 1976 with the help of his musical cohorts the Upsetters, a band cited by both the Clash and the Police as an influence.... The Merrow dials in 91X jock/program director Mike Halloran’s weekly showcase, Radio Halloran, this week featuring alternative acoustic acts Triumph of the Wild, Podunk Nowhere, and Trailduster. Get to know the SDMA-nominated Triumph of the Wild in this week’s Dryw Keltz–penned Blurt, “The woman singing in the kitchen.”

Wednesday 2
Coupla big gigs in town humpnight, as Aussie alt-rock act Atlas Genius (“Trojans”) hits House of Blues...while Swedish skate-punk quartet Millencolin drops in at the Observatory.... Otherwise: Casbah’s hosting a Pre-AwesomeFest Party, as Divers, Shallow Cuts, Santa Ana Knights, and Hot Damn Sextet take the Middletown stage. AwesomeFest 9, the annual DIY/all-volunteer punk-a-thon, runs September 4 through 6 at Soda Bar, Hideout, U-31, and the Office. Check it before the tickets, T-shirts, and koozies run out: awesomefestnine.com/
