Gilbert Castellanos begins his busy night by hosting the Young Lions Series, featuring Arien Jamanila at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) at 6:00 p.m. before heading to Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) for the Latin jam session where the music starts at 9:00 p.m. 21+ no cover charge.

Grammy-winning artist Esperanza Spalding and her band join forces with the San Diego Symphony for her latest project Emily’s D+ Evolution at the Embarcadero Marina South at 7:30 p.m. Tickets still available… The Sizzling Singers Series continues at Northern Spirits Jazz Club (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) at 7:30 p.m. with Steph Johnson, Rob Thorsen, and Duncan Moore. No cover charge… Gilbert Castellanos leads a band at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) at 7:00 p.m. for a $10 cover.

Juice Box with Matthew Smith, Ed Kornhauser, Omar Lopez, and Louis Valenzuela play the Balboa Bar & Grill (1863 Fifth Avenue) at 10:00 p.m. for a $5 cover, 21+… L.A. guitarist Ron Eschete leads a trio for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) at 5:30 p.m. No minimum, no cover… Rebecca Jade plays Northern Spirits at 7:30 p.m. with Rob Whitlock and Charles Weller. No cover.

Saturday 22

The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio, with Ed Kornhauser and Rob Thorsen, hosts the Sunday jam session at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) at 2:00 p.m. No cover, 21+.
