GOP House majority leader Eric Cantor’s defeat at the hands of a Tea Party insurgent has stirred the political pot in Washington. Not so much in San Diego, where the only donor to his political action committee, Every Republican Is Crucial, ERIC for short, was the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, which kicked in $5000 last October. The tribe, which operates a large casino east of El Cajon, has been a faithful giver to both Democrats and Republicans. Last year it anteed up $52,600 for Speaker John Boehner, Roll Call reports. ...

Ralph “Buzz” Woolley, a La Jolla financier and anti-union advocate who chairs the Voice of San Diego news and opinion website, backed Pete Wilson’s pick, Neel Kashkari, for governor against his conservative Republican rival, assemblyman Tim Donnelly. But some San Diegans anteed up for Donnelly, records show. They included Escondido’s Dran May-Reese, with $2500 on June 2. She’s listed as president of QuakeHOLD! Industrial, maker of “the very best in earthquake fastening,” according to the firm’s website. “Actually, it was rowdy children that provided me with the impetus to try and find a substance to fasten down fragile objects,” says the site. “Several years ago, some ‘wonderful’ children ran through my house in Monrovia, California, and knocked over and destroyed my collection of imported Swarovski crystal animals worth more than $500.” She and husband Dean run the Solana Beach–based Salt and Light Council, a conservative nonprofit opposed to same-sex marriage.
