Jazz Live a KSDS Jazz 88 production, continues their summer concert series with LA vocalist Barbara Morrison fronting an 18-piece orchestra and reflecting on the legacy of Dinah Washington at the Saville Theatre on the campus of San Diego City College (14th & C Street). Free to Jazz 88 members, $10 general admission, 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday 23
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos hosts the Young Lions Series at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) this week featuring the Nathan Collins Quartet with Ed Kornhauser on piano, Antar Martin on bass, and Fernando Gomez on drums. They start at 7:00 p.m. with a $5 cover. Castellanos plays the first set, then he’s off to the Latin Jazz jam session at Seven Grand (3054 University Avenue) where he sets up with Irving Flores, Rob Thorsen, and Mike Holguin. Music starts at 9:00 p.m., 21+, no cover, musicians bring your horns!

Thursday 24
The Danny Green Trio dig in at Croce’s Park West, showcasing Green on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass and Julien Cantelm on drums. Music runs from 7:00–11:00 p.m. and the cover charge is a modest $5.

Friday 25 There’s a lot to choose from this weekend, the Antar Martin Aggregation salutes Eric Dolphy’s Out To Lunch disc with Jesse Audelo on reeds, Derek Cannon on trumpet, Kamau Kenyatta on piano, Martin on bass, and Matthew Smith on drums at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) starting at 8:00 p.m., $15 at the door … the Tribute Rebels with Peter Sprague on guitar, Tripp Sprague on reeds, Danny Green on piano, Justin Grinnell on bass, and Julien Cantelm on drums hit Dizzy’s (4275 Mission Bay Drive) at 8:00 p.m., $15 cover … The Tonga Ross-Ma’u Quartet featuring Curtis Taylor on trumpet, Dean Hulett on bass, and Kevin Higuchi on drums are playing at the Encinitas Library (540 Cornish Drive) at 7:00 p.m., $12 at the door … The Fourth Friday Series showcasing Trio de Janeiro with Lori Bell on flute, Ron Satterfield on guitar/piano, and Tommy Aros on percussion is happening at the La Jolla Community Center (6811 La Jolla Boulevard) starting at 8:00 p.m., $25 tickets … the Charlie Arbelaez Trio with Katie Thiroux on bass, and Matt Witek on drums are playing at Habanos Cigar and Coffee Lounge (3111 Hancock Street) 8:00 and 10:00 p.m., no cover charge … the Zinchiladas featuring Alex Lopez, Barry Jaquess, Alberto Diaz, Melanie Jaquess, and John Cunningham, hit the D’Lish Bistro (386 E. H Street) from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. no cover, free parking.

Saturday 26
The Robert Dove Sextet featuring Dove and Charlie Arbelaez on reeds, with Curtis Taylor on trumpet, Kiefer Shackelford on piano, Dean Hulett on bass, and Kevin Higuchi on drums are setting up at 98 Bottles, downbeat is at 8:00 p.m. $15 at the door … Son Pa Ti do that Latin thing at Turquoise Café Bar Europa (873 Turquoise Street) with Alex Lopex on sax and guitar, Mark Lopez on guitar, Alberto Diaz on vocals and percussion, Juan Santana on bass, and Pat Burke on timbales, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., no cover and plenty of parking… the Reka Parker/Paul Seaforth Quartet with Jeff Blanco on bass, and Bob Daniels on drums are hitting at Northern Spirits (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., $5 cover.
