Free screening of Casablanca at Landmark Hillcrest

Hey, Turner Classic Movies! You must remember this: there is more to vintage cinema (and the vast holdings in the M-G-M/Warner Bros. vaults) than, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," "We'll always have Paris," and "Toto, too."

As thrilled as I am that TCM is dusting off an older film for theatrical exhibition, every time there's an announcement of a nationwide revival of a classic, it's always the same damn 3 titles up for discussion: Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and Gone With the Wind.

Just two years ago Casablanca received a nationwide re-release to honor it's 70th Anniversary. It is by no means a bad film, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of others I'd rather see on the big screen than the one Andrew Sarris rightfully dubbed a "happy accident."

If you are one of the 19 people out there who have never seen Casablanca, or one of the millions not fortunate enough to have seen it the way it was meant to be seen, here is your chance.

Landmark Hillcrest

3965 Fifth Avenue, Hillcrest

Nearly 10,000 TCM fans voted on 20 cities across America that will be treated to a free screening of Casablanca and San Diego is one of them. The venue for the March 4, 7:30 pm screening is Landmark's Hillcrest Cinemas.

Fine print: Seating is limited. Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets do not guarantee entry. As for us, we'll always have Santee.
