From the long-range fleet:

The Red Rooster III fishing the first day of their 16 Day trip after arriving at the Clarion Island area south of Cabo reported a slow pick all day ending with 24 Yellowfin Tuna, mostly in the 80-120 lb range. Large fish of the day was 222 lbs.

The Trout have been a bit shy at Santee and Jennings this week. This rain might cool it off a bit and trigger the new stockers to bite. The area lakes have been producing decent Largemouth Bass fishing, especially for those fishing the drop-shot in deeper water from 25-50 ft with plastics. It's that time of year to break out the trout-colored swimbait for a trophy and we should start seeing some big numbers on the local scales soon. Let us know if you have a trophy to share!

Catfish have been in the mix, not only for those targeting them by conventional means, but occasionally hitting a power bait or some other soaked treat meant for a Trout.

San Diego and Mission Bays:

The Spotted Bass bite in both bays has slowed a bit with the water temp dropping sharply in the last couple weeks. Even so, find the right spot along the edge or on the flats in the right current and they will light up. Try the holes at the slack tide for a Halibut or two. Find the bait and fish under it, keeping an eye out for deep spots right off the edge off the grass. Bonito, Mackerel, Orange-Mouth Corvina and small Barracuda can still be found occasionally feeding on bait during the high tides.

Near shore:

The La Jolla and Point Loma kelp beds have been producing good Sheephead and Calico Bass fishing with occasional Lingcod. A few White Seabass and Yellowtail have been reported this past week, but the Bonito continue to be the main surface action just off the coast. If you venture north to Horseshoe Kelp or Catalina Island, or south to the Coronados, Yellowtail continue to be the dominant catch with freezer-filling Rockfish and Lingcod showing well.
