"New Chicano" rapper Rossi on the rise

San Diego hip-hop artist Rossi rocked the mic at House of Blues during San Diego's inaugural DunkXChange, a trade show for sneaker heads and hip-hop enthusiasts.

Rossi kicked off his set with “Crack and Some Gold,” which carries a golden-age-of-hip-hop sound with a smooth blues sample. The lyrics reminisce on the challenges and experiences of growing up in neighborhoods on the underside of socioeconomics.

The “New Chicano” MC donned a Ché Guevara T-shirt, “representing for the green, white and red” on a track titled “No Rings.” The song is dedicated to the City of San Diego, Rossi’s Hispanic heritage, and the Chargers football team.

Rossi also performed “Remind Me,” an ode to his deceased father, and “Live Forever” from his latest album The Storm, with a guest appearance from headliner Brandon Watson.
