Tuesday 5
Joe Garrison and Night People perform at UC San Diego's The Loft. The composer is bringing in a 14-piece version of Night People, featuring Kirk Johnson, Kamau Kenyatta, Doug Walker, Anton Martin, Derek Cannon, Fernando Gomez, Armando Silva, Charlie Arbalaez, Nicolee Kuester, Kevin Esposito, Brian O' Donnell, Lynn Willard, and Ariana Lamon-Anderson. Saxophonist David Borgo will open with pianist Tobin Chodos and bassist Tim McNalley. Free!

Bassist Ben Wanicur hosts a jam session at 3rd Space (4610 Park Boulevard), with Jason Sahttil on piano and Charlie Weller on drums. Musicians bring your instruments. $5 cover.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos hosts his weekly jam session at 7 Grand, 3054 University Avenue in North Park. This week's entrée is Latin jazz with Rob Thorsen, Charlie Chavez, and Mike Holguin. Starts at 9:30. No Cover!

NYC guitarist Terrance McManus comes to Palomar College for a rare Southern California appearance. 12:30. Free!

Vocalist Rebecca Jade appears at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) with saxophonist Wayne Braxton, Kevin Flournoy, and Damion Willis in a fundraiser for the cancer treatment of Maricris Paoloutzian. 8 p.m. $20.

Friday 8
Gilbert Castellanos, with pianist Kiefer Shackelford and bassist Rob Thorsen, at the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue). Music begins at 8 p.m. No cover.

Armenian pianist Tigran performs at Dizzy's (4275 Mission Bay Drive), with bassist Christopher Tordini and drummer Arthur Hnatek. 8 p.m. $15.

Saxophonist Mark Lessman, pianist Rob Whitlock, bassist Mark Hunter, and drummer Kevin Koch are at Amaya La Jolla (1205 Prospect Street), 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Robin Adler and Mutts of the Planet come to Dizzy's, to perform Joni Mitchell's Hejira in its entirety. Featuring Dave Blackburn and Jamie Kime on guitars, with bassist Kenin Hennessy, vocalists Lisa Hightower-Kibbe, Maureen Mullins, and Sharon Goodman, Jeffrey Joe on harmonica, and Danny Campbell on drums. This show will sell out! $20.

Joshua White and Bob Boss perform an evening of piano and guitar duets at Villa Musica ( 10373 Roselle Street, Suite 170). 8 p.m. $15.

Guitarist Jaime Valle and bassist Bob Magnusson perform at Harry's Bar & Grill (4370 La Jolla Village Drive).

Monday 11
Acclaimed NYC pianist Fred Hersch appears at TSRI in La Jolla ( 10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive), as a part of the Athenaeum Jazz series with bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson. $30 members, $35 general admission.
