Aerial View of Shockey Fire Aftermath

The 2800-acre Shockey Fire, which started on Sunday afternoon, September 23, destroyed 25 buildings and took one life. The devastation is heartbreaking. The neighborhood of Tierra del Sol in Boulevard was hardest hit, with up to 11 homes destroyed.

This October 1 photo was taken from a light aircraft 1500 feet above the ground, just north of the international border. Aircraft and 955 firefighters from multiple agencies contained the fire on September 25, to the extent that evacuated residents could return to their property.

On October 1, it was reported that target-shooters may have inadvertently started the blaze.
