Dangerous/Classy Fans at Offspring’s Del Mar Show

The Offspring show at the Del Mar Racetrack on Friday evening, August 10, kept sheriff's deputies, medical officials, and Elite security guards on edge all night.

A large, boisterous crowd waited for the concert to begin next to the Seaside Stage. At around 8:20, the punk/pop band from Orange County took the stage. Almost immediately, fans went crazy and the barricade that was placed to keep order at the front came down. The band noticed the mayhem, told everyone to take it easy, and stopped the music after the third song. They waited to begin again until order had been restored.

Back in the medical assistance area, an unconscious man was brought in for treatment. His friend carried him to a gurney for treatment. A lady told me "her big toenail was split down the middle and she lost her shoes."

Sheriff's deputies were called to hogtie an uncooperative male fan who refused to come quietly. Crowd surfers and barricade jumpers were causing problems all night long.

The Offspring played a short show — just a little more than an hour long — and seemed to rush through their set list without much yakking with the crowd.

On the band's Facebook page, the band posted this comment: "Thank you Del Mar/San Diego. You guys rocked so hard tonight. Just glad nobody got hurt. Dangerous yet classy crowd."
