Guitarist Matt Barajas will be plugging the Negative Dad comic series he cocreated with Wavves frontman Nathan Williams, with a first-issue preview available at the Artist’s Alley table manned by artist Nicholas Gazin. Local publisher BloodFire will be giving away a San Diego band compilation CD, Staring at the Sun Volume 9, with a cartoon cover by Lee Kohse and featuring Red Fox Tails, Gregory Page, Lights On, Echo Revolution, Colin Clyne, Death on Mars, Marie Haddad, SO3, and others.

On Saturday, July 23, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola will debut scenes and music from his upcoming horror movie Twixt in the Hall H auditorium. Musician Dan Deacon will perform songs from the movie, which stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, and Elle Fanning.

Away from the convention center, the wOOtstock variety show will be staged at the Balboa Theatre on Thursday, July 21, hosted by musical comedy duo Paul & Storm and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

A fan-made adaptation of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the internet musical comedy cocreated by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, will be staged Thursday through Sunday at the 107-seat 10th Avenue Theatre. The production stars singer/songwriter Jane Lui, whose Goodnight Company album was recently nominated for an SDMA.

The 10th Avenue Theatre will also host a Thursday night Samurais & School Girls rooftop party, with DJ Robin Roth.

On Saturday, July 22, the zombie-themed X-Sanguin: Last Call at Spin will feature five deejays and three dance floors, while TechKaraoke takes over 97 Horton, at Horton Plaza.
