Nothing but Class, Babies

When Wayne Newton plays Viejas tomorrow, June 10, he expects, aside from his own limo, "a separate vehicle for Mr. Newton's pilots and mechanic." His wardrobe needs a clothes rack and an "upright steamer." Newton's dressing room requires carpeting and "two corner tables" as well as pretzels, fresh fruit and vegetable platters with dips, a bottle of Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages wine, a bottle of Stags' Leap merlot, a six-pack of Coors Light, and "two red carnation boutonnieres."

Before playing Palomar Starlight Theater on June 12, Tony Bennett wants a dark blue or black limo ("no white"), and his hotel room must have "a view" and "windows [that] can be opened to fresh air." In the dressing room, he likes Perrier and Evian bottled water, and he prefers Pepsi over Coke. In recognition of Bennett-mad stage-rushers, "The audience shall not be more than six feet from the stage."

When Al Green plays Viejas on June 14, he wants his limo to be a "late-model, clean Mercedes," and his hotel should be a "two-room corner suite on a high floor." If your seats suck, that may be because Green gets "25 complimentary tickets...in the center of the first five rows." He wants four 32-ounce Gatorades ("any flavor"), a six-pack of Coke ("cold"), a bottle of white wine, and a "small meat tray." Onstage, he expects a stool and 24 long-stemmed roses ("dethorned").
