A pair of devoted cousins (Melissa Barrera and Anahí Dávila), caught up in the excitement (and liquor) associated with a wedding, decide to play a joke on their respective husbands (Mariano Palacios and Daniel Adissi) by swapping rings and driving home in separate cars. How far are they willing to take things? We’ll never know, due to a fatal crash that evokes the “death us do part” clause found in traditional wedding vows, leaving two opposite legs of the table standing. Director and writer Salomón Askenazi’s achronological structure is certain to raise questions, but isn’t that why the risk-takers among us opt for festival viewings over standard multiplex fare? Abandon logic and just go with it. Admittedly, this is one of those instances where you’ll wish there were blu-ray copies on sale in the lobby to instantly revisit to see how in hell Askenazi pulled it off. Better yet, be there when the film screens and ask him. (2018) — Scott Marks
