On the eve of his big court hearing we find Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren), a judgemental cop with a grudge to nurse and a load of backstory to slowly unravel, demoted to playing wet nurse as an emergency services dispatch operator. What is the purpose of taking an original idea for a screenplay and reducing it to something that would work just as well as a one-person/ one-location stage play? Add to this sorry, wrong number of a thriller a profusion of actor-appreciating closeups and there’s barely a drop of cinema to be wrung from the piece. Call it a clear-cut case of actor as auteur as freshman director/co-writer Gustav Möller depends far too heavily on his leading man to do carry the load. Once the gimmick quickly subsides, in its wake lies as fine a depiction of a lead character talking into a headset as any put on film. (2018) — Scott Marks
