Remember when your high school teacher would wheel out a 16mm projector and proceed to put the class to sleep with hopelessly unengaging educational films? That at least offered students a vacation from science class, which is more than can be said for the fate of audiences attending Christopher Nolan’s latest round of effects-driven, high-tech, intergalactic mumbo-jumbo. With no costumes other than space suits for his characters to hide behind, brainiac Nolan displays a mastery of the space-time continuum while once again finding it impossible to pen a coherent third act. ERs across the country had best stock up on brain specialists to care for the sudden rash of exploding heads this too-hip-for-the-galaxy space opera will foster among fanboys. There are many words to describe Interstellar. Entertainment isn’t one of them. With Matthew McConaughey whisper-speaking his lines and guests in space Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Matt Damon, and Jessica Chastain.
