Not long ago, Sam was a Moses for his people. But now the legendary MC from Rockford, Illinois, is stuck. He wants to move on but can't quite let go. So he seeks the best spot on an overpass for Fourth of July fireworks -- in February. Nathan Alan Davis's new Rap-laced play has a thought-provoking theme (when do you know not to look back?), some funny lines, and a standout performance. But it's more parts than a whole. Scenes are often static, characters undeveloped. The play and the slow-paced Cygnet production need tightening. Terrell Donnell Sledge plays Sam as if he knew the man personally. He convinces as a first-class rapper and as someone who hit the heights but should fine a new one to climb. Chaz Shermil excels as Nia, the outsider who finds a home. Worth a try.
