Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch
Where: The Flower Fields, 5704 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad
Cost: $8 - $16
Age limit: All ages
Ongoing: until Sunday, May 13, 2018
For over 60 years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into a spectacular display of natural color and beauty. The 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are in bloom for six to eight weeks each year, literally bringing the famous fields back to life. 2018 brings new landscaping and renovations. See the display gardens developed by the San Diego Master Gardeners, walk through the fragrant sweet pea maze with new pathways, learn about composting and gardening in the new greenhouses with classes, and enjoy a new picnic area.
The fields are a result of over 85 years of floral cultivation that began when Luther Gage settled in the area in the early 1920s. Gage introduced Ranunculus seeds and began growing them in his fields next to Frank Frazee’s small vegetable farm in South Oceanside. $16 adults, $8 children three to ten.
