Abigail Williams, age 11, and Mercy Lewis named names at the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Their accusations led to at least 20 deaths, many by hanging. In Liz Duffy Adams's at-times quirky script, Abigail comes back ten years later and wants to know "what happened"?  Why would a "civilized" society give a pre-teen have the powers of a god? Moxie Theatre's opening night was a wall-to-wall celebration of its 10th year, which warped the tone, especially in the first act. Still, there was much to recommend: Jo Anne Glover's Abigail, at once stately and perplexed; fierce, vivid monologues by young Olivia Hicks and Wendy Waddell; expert design work, especially Robin Sanford Roberts's rustic set; and Jennifer Brawn Gittings's equally rustic costumes.

Worth a try.
