Youth and gun violence. The subject's so unthinkable a saint couldn't fathom the agony. Nick Gandiello's world premiere uses a multi-genre approach. But it's several drafts and rethinkings away from effectiveness. The father of a youth who shot several college students meets with the Garcias, who lost their son in the havoc. But instead of a major confrontation, plumbing issues and emotions, most of Blameless is a comedy -- or tries to be. When a scene verges on seriousness, a joke intrudes and deflates the tension. And the actors, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, push the humor hard, even to the point of slapstick. The play doesn't face the implications of its subject.
