The Maritime Museum of San Diego and The Hausmann Quartet embark on their fourth season of “Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime,” a unique mix of music and education for those looking for a new cultural and creative experience. The Hausmann Quartet’s intimate performances transport audiences on unique musical voyages, flowing from classical to contemporary works in an idyllic setting, aboard the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley in downtown San Diego. Enjoy performances on the city’s only floating concert hall and immerse yourself in sounds of a string quartet and the San Diego Bay.
Each unique performance explores the evolution of the string quartet through both the lens of classical composer Joseph Haydn and themes varying from differing world views, humor, to the human condition. Refreshments are available on Berkeley’s upper deck bar starting at 3:30pm. Performances include informative and entertaining commentary from musicologist Derek Katz.
September 15 - Loss and Renewal
This concert spans the full range of our human experience: impending death and unspeakable tragedy of losing a child, contrasted with the sense of hope and renewal that comes with the birth of another child, and an unexpected recovery after a long illness. Beethoven's opus 132 Quartet, a world premiere by Ryan Carter and Haydn's quirky opus 17/1 Quartet completes this emotionally potent evening. This concert is also the annual celebration of KPBS' sponsorship of Haydn Voyages.
