Join us on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. for a tour of the solar system narrated by the Fleet’s astronomer. Journey through the cosmos with us as we explore a new topic each month. Free telescope viewing with the San Diego Astronomy Association available outside after the shows, weather permitting. This is a separate event held on the first Wednesday of each month. Due to the darkness required in the theater and the sophisticated nature of the material presented, planetarium shows are not recommended for children 5 years and under. October 2019: Tidal Forces You may know that the Moon causes the tides in the ocean of the Earth, but did you know tidal forces act on other celestial objects? Learn about the effect of tides on moons, black holes, and galaxies, too! November 2019: Mercury Mercury is the innermost planet in our solar system. Is it molten? Does it have an atmosphere? Can we see it from Earth? Join us to learn about Mercury and about the upcoming transit of Mercury! December 2019: Our Milky Way Galaxy Our Milky Way Galaxy contains solar systems, nebulae, star clusters, and a supermassive black hole. Learn how we discovered the structure of our Galaxy and view the beauty of the Milky Way.
