Sierra Club Sierra Talks
Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in Southern California: Shawnté Salabert spent two years researching, hiking, photographing, and writing about the Pacific Crest Trail for her book Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail: Southern California, covering the ground between its southern terminus in Campo, California and Yosemite National Park's iconic Tuolumne Meadows. During that time, she confronted fears and pushed her limits while also learning what was truly important in life - and falling more deeply in love with California in the process. During her presentation, she’ll share stories of trail magic, wild weather, emotional rollercoasters and more, along with practical information on section hiking the trail, during a photo-heavy virtual tour of the first 942.5 miles of this world-class hiking path. Shawnté is a Los Angeles-based freelance writer with a taste for wild spaces. Her work has appeared in Los Angeles Magazine, Outside, California Sunday Magazine, Backpacker, Alpinist, Modern Hiker, and Adventure Journal, among other outlets. She is an ambassador for the American Hiking Society, and a trip leader and Wilderness Travel Course staff member with the Sierra Club.
