The Barbara & William Karatz Chamber Series presents Glasgow-based Maxwell String Quartet, comprising violinists Colin Scobie, considered one of the most compelling chamber musicians of his generation, and George Smith, violist Elliott Perks, and cellist Duncan Strachan who grew up playing folk and classical music in youth orchestras and music schools across Scotland. Smith and Strachan, who met while postgraduate students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland formed the initial quartet in 2010. The award-winning Maxwell Quartet is now firmly regarded as one of Britain’s finest string quartets, with a strong connection to their folk music heritage.
